Spiritual Homelessness
I say it daily, “We are not unaware.” A few philosophers, even a shrink or two might disagree, but this hill I shall die on. We know exactly what's going on. We may not speak it or live it but we “get it!” We have a damn good idea of what we want, need and desire. How do I arrive at my conclusion? The study or work of my own life, coupled with my relationship with the Divine. I hid for years in booze, laughter and anger. I “ran” from everyone and still do on occasion. The anger kept people at bay whether they know it or not. Contempt kept me right and my arrogance kept you unable to connect. For the record, I have known these things for a long time. They are my mechanisms for safety and security. They leave people broken and myself emotionally unavailable. I simply die without admission. We have to form the ability to talk about our knowing; a “come to Jesus” if you will, with an intimate friend or professional or perhaps even Jesus! We must put down our swords and approach open ground ending the fight, ending our spiritual homelessness. For me, my work with a spiritual director gave me nothing to prove, nothing to lose. You hear me say it all the time but it is true. The minute I let go into the knowing of self I entered a kingdom filled with hope and love. I now live sober and work like hell to understand anger and rage, and of course seek forgiveness often. This is the work of being aware. This is the work of understanding WANTS, NEEDS and DESIRES.
