Your Woods
It’s satisfying to take in the miracle of creation. As a kid I was drawn to the woods. It’s quiet kept me alive while mom and dad worked on their divorce. Among the trees I would I walk and sit for hours. It was my cathedral. The sounds my worship. The silence the very touch of the Divine. Creation filled me in the forest. I was not forced to reconcile it’s cause or life giving essence. I knew as I entered into it’s deep shadows I was safe. My seven-year-old self often calls me back, asking me to walk and sit with him in those “woods.” Making sure I am OK. His constant poke in present day a reminder of God’s call to seek creation. The way into deeper knowing of self and God. It is easy to get lost in the constant crazy penetrating noise of 2020. To trivialize our need for love, our need for knowing the Divine. To run past, drive past, scroll past the very essence and beat of our life’s work. The ability to recognize creation; a sunset, a tree, the ocean, a friend, mom, sister, you, God… the need to love.
