Your Privilege Is Your Poverty
Privilege keeps new life at bay. It ties people to the grave. It’s a consuming fire of exclusivity hoping you find it’s warmth among the burning bones of those who have given life for your comfort. You don't stop privilege by asserting power or braun and YOU don’t walk to church holding up theology as a way to freedom or reform. Stopping privilege comes through great movements of self and community interrogation and actualization based on the pain privilege produces. Your privilege is your poverty; period. Your privilege blinds you to the human heart. Blinds you to need. Blinds you to the orphan, the handicapped, the marginalized, the poor, the widow, racism…blinds you! We often assign privilege color but it lives and dies in every heart. Privilege allows you to look the other way and looking the other way is a choice that kills. Our protest is our collective disgust at the depths we've sunk into allowing privilege to dominate the hearts and minds of our communities. Privilege needs mentors who have been bitten by and from its systemic blood line. We need people who will allow ignorance, grace, mercy and ultimately forgiveness which leads to widespread action, working for the marginalized. The human heart, soul, and consciousness is dying in our privileged poverty. I pray for new. New senses of WHO WE ARE among those who need.
