The Spiritual Act Of Listening Is Change
Change is inevitable for the soul that listens. Very often listening comes at the cost of pain. We seem to be more attentive to who is the mirror when we're crying out to the universe for help. How do you listen? Who do you listen to? We listen to our hearts, good counsel, the Divine, and gravitate to truth, awareness and deep new avenues of consciousness. The Prodigal son who fled his father's home to enjoy a life of “freedom” listened, eventually. He would wind up broke, hungry, extremely ashamed of his behavior, yet listening while face down in shit. Off he went back home, bent on change, even if that meant he'd become a servant on his father's farm. As he walked up the driveway his father ran to him, embraced him, celebrated him, held him. The Father whispered in his ear, ``You were dead, now alive. You were lost, now found.” I'm sure he heard that! When did things change for the prodigal? When he faced himself and listened deeply to his failures, successes, choices and responsibilities, while knowing returning home would mean change. Freedom from fear, ego and the need to go it alone.
