Originality

Originality is lost on those seeking attention. I feel bad for the spotlight. It’s job must be so overwhelming. Constantly asked to fill the souls of millions looking for approval from audiences  largely unseen and unknown. The vacuous creative that goes into waving down its luster in hopes of  hijacking news cycles. It seems the spotlight is an essential job. Nothing about “attention grabs” is attractive. Originality has been lost to “likes” and “hearts.” I've been watching a friend learn guitar during lockdown. She courageously posts, to a very humble audience, her struggles as she fights through the unknown. Her ability to think independently, creatively and authentically draws her audience in. Not for the Eddie Van Halen riffs, but the opportunity to watch her learn, flourish and celebrate WITH. That’s what originality does. It inspires, moves and transforms a community. More attention to transformation, less attention to ego driven self fulfillment. I really hope the spotlight finds her before this is all over.
