Infuriated by Grace is Compassionless Faith
In parts of our country there is a war on the homeless. I am told that the homeless are a blight on our neighborhoods. They drive down property values. They do drugs and defecate on sidewalks. They are dirty and simply not socially acceptable. In return we lock them out of bathrooms, ignore them, and think they should help themselves out of our sight. There are a few charitable groups who help. They feed them, cloth them, wash them, shelter them, give them medical care and some even try to move them up and out of their conditions. You’d think solving this problem would be an easy task. This country has more money and resources than we could ever use. Hell, if American Christians got together and just took in half of a homeless person we’d solve the problem in an hour! Unfortunately, many people are infuriated by grace. Mad at the prospect that we may have to help the homeless. Angry that the marginalized may need our love. Pissed our tax dollars are spent on homes and services for a group of people that obviously don't want or need our help. After all, they did it to themselves and can undo it anytime they want. The fury over grace has created a compassionless faith. It should concern us and push us to act.
