Human Jesus
We Disney-fun Jesus. We make him a superhero spirit man. Beautiful, tall, blond, blue eyed, white teeth and flowing brown hair. He usurps time, reads minds and looks human but not really human, well he is, but he’s God slash human but more God superhero guy than human. We’ve created a monster and religion around his superhero-ness. We hold him up; like way up. The very real truth about Jesus is that he was human. Like you! So much like you. He didn't “want” to die a bloody and brutal death on the cross. He said so a few times. He was terrified. He was human. Just like you! At one point we see him weeping over a dead friend. Just like you! Another time we see him pissed at the injustice being done to the marginalized. Just like you! Once as a kid he questioned authority. Just like you. Just. Like. You. Next time you're feeling the enormity of being human, struggling with emotions, relationships or the “who am I’s” know Jesus did too. No need to fall on your face crying out for him to fix it. Instead allow his humanness and teachings about being human to soothe and mature your life. We can breathe easier today because he was in fact just like you.
