Exposure Reveals The Divine
A few years ago I fought myself out of a ruthless addiction to alcohol. The mistakes I made during the years I drank will haunt me, my wife, kids and those close to me for a lifetime. I broke hearts, broke trust and broke faith. Alcohol was a substance of desire. It took away my fears and pains while trying to kill me. Through the love of friends, family and the best spiritual director given to this world, I sobered up. The gratitude I feel today comes at the cost of self exposure and receiving Divine love. Allowing all that I did, all that I thought through a reckless addiction come to the table and find an audience among those who love me. Taking account of, standing up for, asking forgiveness and building whatever restitution was needed and I am NOT done. We transform from the bottom up. We come to grace though resistance. We learn to love. My story isn't unique. There are millions of people in varying stages of addiction right now. My story is a human story. A reconciliation with who I am, right now in the face of God and community. Today I am free. Thank you God. Be courageous. Hold no secrets. Tell on yourself. Allow whatever your addiction is exposure to grace.
