Common, Ordinary, Humble

So, one big suggestion being made now is there will be a huge push to ignore our collective COVID awakening and simply shove ourselves back into life as if nothing happened once we re-emerge from quarantine. If we look at traumatic historical events and their aftermath, an argument can be made that the suggestion is bullshit. 9/11 made way for societal changes that are still very much in effect today. But the suggestion has more to do with what we will ignore in order to pursue selfish ends. Pre- COVID did we reach an egoic human boiling point? Did we screw with our natural world just a little too much? Did our want of Instagram influence, Youtube fame and TedTalk sagacity simply kick our asses in one giant roundhouse? Did we stray from the wisdom of ordinary, common and humble? Answer at your leisure. The world seems to have done a great job at stopping in the face of death. Death has its way every time. I suggest we stop anticipating the future. I suggest we hold to the presence with ordinary, common and humble responses. Our common suffering, our ordinary quarantines, our humble prayers crying to hold this moment with a collective clarity to love deeper and preserve more. Yes! There will be voices suggesting the whole thing was just a dream. It’s O.K. Go be selfish. But faith says we hope for more, better and are assured it will come to pass. What is better? What is more? What is common? What is ordinary? What is humble? What will you bring to the post-COVID world?
