A Selfish Strand Of DNA
We can be a bit self obsessed, no? Thinking and acting at times only for personal gain. Turns out, there is a nice selfish strand of DNA enmeshed in the brilliance of who we are. If we're not careful this strand can grow tall and strong like a California redwood hovering over all we are, including those we love. Nothing speaks to the heart like a good friend, spouse, child or mentor. It is these relationships we find the most transformation. Beyond the self assessment of a good friend, it is incredibly important to check in with what might not be known, what WE might be missing among our relationships. Although our intentions may be good, at times we “miss” people. We miss their feelings, we miss their ability to love us, we miss their forgiveness, we miss their longings, desires and needs. It is the sorrow of every relationship. Occasionally, we miss the people we love. It is hard to hear you’ve missed, hard to know you've left someone alone. The ego wants to beat this back and tell you, “It’s not your fault.” “They should have said more, or spoken up sooner, told us directly what they wanted!” We will tell ourselves all kinds of bullshit trying to appease our ego along with the fear we may have made a mistake. Truthfully, that's part of this process. Realizing the ego may have been the culprit all along. Do yourself a favor today. Grab your spouse, your friend, your kids, your coworkers and ask them, “How do I miss you?” “How do I keep you in the shadow?” “How can I hear you better?” Then…listen.
Who do you miss?
