I'm A Bit Sorrowful
In the moments I am writing this, I am filled with sorrow. About? A lot of stuff. Our move from California, the struggles of my children, the always uncertain future faith anchors you in, feeling like you're standing on the edge of a sharp knife. It’s not a complaint, its sorrow. Sorrow points us to love, points us to the safe intimate presence of the Divine. How many times in your own life have you anguished before God, “please help me, please make it better, good or right, HELP ME!” regardless if circumstances got better there was a deep call in you to connect with love… God. That's the energy of sorrow, pushing, prodding, moving, almost holding you deep in the longing to receive love. We are trained, in some cases wired to cover it’s desire with whatever the world has to offer… don’t take the bait! The world is designed to kick your ass, promise. There are 150 Psalms, all hanging their hats on human distress, sorrow and the desire for God to come and show his face. Psalm 118, “Pushed to the wall, I called to God; from the wide open spaces, he answered.” The Divine answers… perhaps not to your specifications… but love answers, promise. And, for the record, that acknowledgement might not mean you feel any better. That takes a bit of getting used to but makes sense as you come find joy in the Divine and not people, places and things. Sorrow begins the hard work of receiving love. For all of you, who are like me with a bit of sorrow in your life, you're not alone. In fact you're in a damn good place. A place to receive, a place to settle into and allow God to do what he’s great at, just love you.
