3 Ways To Kill Expectations

ex·pec·ta·tion

noun

plural noun: expectations

  1. A strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the future.

  2. A belief that someone will or should achieve something.

Expectations can be one of the most debilitating movements we put into relationships. For one BIG reason, we usually don’t tell anyone what they are. As a result most expectations stay silent creating resentment and contempt for those in front of us. While on the other side of the fence, that silence creates the thinking, “I can can never do anything right,”

Want to be happy? Kill your expectations.

Want to create peace? Kill expectations

Three ways to kill  expectations:

  1. Allow Love - Forget the notion you will dictate how another is to love you, celebrate you or even create space for you. Allow people to love you without you scripting expectation or dictation of behavior.

  2. Know Your Expectations -  Make a list, what do you expect? Check your expectations against your ego. Your ego helps keep expectations alive, why? Because very often expectations are a selfish endeavor and your ego always wants self satisfaction. Know your expectations and check them!

  3. Allow Expectations Group Think - Out loud tell people what you are expecting. This will help create wise boundaries and wise expectations that serve your relationship instead of creating silent opposition.
